Papua New Guinea National Fisheries Authority has came good with the assistance of K334, 000 towards Operation Open Hearth Program.  Although NFA is a small organization compared to other private and government departments NFA has supported Operation Open Heart Program for a good course. Early this year, NFA has funded Operation Heart Program with K100, 000 to purchase much needed cardiac surgical instruments for the heart operation. Last week NFA has injected K234, 000 towards the purchase of echo- ultrasound.

Speaking when presenting the cheque, Sylvester Pokajam Managing Director of National Fisheries Authority said that this is worth giving to safe lives of Papua New Guineas who are unfortunate to access private hospitals at excessive amount.  Mr Pokajam said this donation will safe some hundreds of lives especially those ordinary citizens who could not afford big medical bills at the private hospitals. “I believe this will go in a long way as this is very crucial”, Mr Pokajam said.

Professor Nakapi Tefuarani, Pediatric Cardiologist with Port Moresby General Hospital thanked NFA especially the Managing Director and the board of directors for their  continues support.  Prof Tefuarani said NFA has came in a big ways in supporting not just this year but also from previous records NFA has been so active in supporting and assisting Operation Open Heart Programs.  “I am so thankful and my heart is with NFA because as a government body to bow down on us and finance us for the worthy cause is a great assistance. We have been fortunate to buy cardiac surgical instruments through NFA and I am so thankful to the current management and hard working staff of NFA”, Professor Tefuarani said.

He said that they have already used a portable echo-machine in Lae last week and already a number of heart patients have been checked using this equipment. They are now checking heart patients in Port Moresby.  Professor Tefuarani said after the proper screening, the medical experts of heart operation will discuss and choose which patients should be recommended for surgery and operation.  PNG NFA has assisted Operation Open Heart Program and now they have a machine that all Papua New Guineans are expected to benefit.
